Government considers the draft amendments to the legislation in the field of drug control

Today, during the meeting of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, chaired by the Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev, a draft law "On introducing amendments and additions to some legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the control of the circulation of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their analogs and precursors" was adopted.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan K. Kassymov reported that in accordance with international experience, recommendations of the UN international committees on the control of drug trafficking and the conclusion of the Constitutional Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a decision was adopted to approve the National List of Prohibited Substances.

Adoption of the relevant act of the Government will allow the operative replenishment of the list of drugs banned in the country with new types of psychoactive substances appearing on the market. In addition, the National Drug List will be supplemented by 88 major, potentially dangerous psychoactive substances. This will cover the entire list of drugs of synthetic origin that are under the control in the EAEU countries and the UN International Committee for Drug Control.

As a result, the Law "On Narcotic Drugs" will regulate the turnover not only of those drugs which are already under the control, but also types, the appearance of which is possible in the future.

Based on the results of the consideration of the issue, the draft law "On Amendments and Additions to Some Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Control of Circulation of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances, Their Analogues and Precursors" has been adopted and will be forwarded to the Parliament for consideration.
