Prime Minister Askar Mamin discusses implementation of investment projects in Kazakhstan with Chair of EDB Nikolai Podguzov

Prime Minister Askar Mamin received the Chair of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank Nikolai Podguzov.

During the meeting, the preliminary results of the EDB's activities in 2020 and the prospects for the further work of the Bank, including the implementation of investment projects in Kazakhstan, were discussed.

For 9 months of 2020, the EDB took part in financing projects in Kazakhstan for $314 million, by the end of the year this figure is planned to be increased to $335 million. One of the major projects involving EDB investments in Kazakhstan this year was the construction of a new international airport in Turkistan and the Construction and Operation of the BAKAD Highway project.

The total volume of projects in Kazakhstan in the Bank's portfolio at the end of 2020 is projected at $1.5 billion. In the sectoral structure of the investment portfolio, the largest share is occupied by projects in the energy sector (20%), transport (20%), mining industry (23%), mechanical engineering (5%), financial sector (5%).

The Head of the Government of Kazakhstan noted the importance of the EDB's participation in promising projects in the agro-industrial complex, industry, transport, energy and other sectors of the economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the same time, he emphasized the need to focus efforts on financing large infrastructure projects and focus on pre-project activities.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the functioning of the EDB Digital Initiatives Fund, created in June 2020, as well as the prospects for the Bank's participation in the implementation of the Kazakhstan-Russia Cross-Border Cooperation Program.

Preparations for the forthcoming First Eurasian Congress in December this year were discussed, the central event of which will be the plenary session of the heads of government of the EAEU countries "Economic pragmatism and mutual benefit as the basis of Eurasian economic integration.»

The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov.
