Government considers issues of gas supply to settlements

At a government session chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, issues of gas supply to settlements were considered.

Minister of Energy Nurlan Nogayev, akims of the Turkistan region Umirzak Shukeyev, of Zhambyl region – Berdibek Saparbayev, Karaganda region – Zhenis Kassymbek, Nur-Sultan – Altay Kulginov presented their reports.

In Kazakhstan, as well as in the world energy market, there is an outstripping development of the gas industry in relation to the production and consumption of other types of energy carriers.

This year, gas consumption in Kazakhstan is expected to grow to 16.5 bcm (consumption in 2019 amounted to 16.3 bcm). First of all, this is due to an increase in the number of consumers, where 50% of gas is used for electricity generation, the utilities sector – 36%, and industry – 14%.

At the end of this year, the gas supply rate is planned at 53%, 9.8 million people will have access to natural gas.

In 2025, the gasification level will reach 60% with the connection of 2,120 settlements or 11.7 million inhabitants. This will be facilitated by the implementation of stages 2 and 3 of the Saryarka project, gas supply to East Kazakhstan, as well as the expansion and reconstruction of regional networks.

The Head of Government instructed the Ministry of Energy, together with related government agencies and organizations, to develop an updated draft of the General Scheme of Gas Supply in the Republic of Kazakhstan by April 1, 2021.

In order to supply gas to the northern regions, the prime minister instructed to complete by March 1, 2021, updating the feasibility study and obtaining all examinations for the implementation of stages 2 and 3 of the Saryarka gas pipeline project. They also noted the need to prepare by April 1, 2021, a concept gas supply to the East Kazakhstan region.

Akimats of Turkistan, Aktobe, Zhambyl, Mangystau, West Kazakhstan, Almaty regions and Almaty city were instructed to provide in local budgets the necessary funds to eliminate existing defects in gas supply facilities and their subsequent transfer to the balance of operating organizations.
