Import duties cancelled on goods necessary for livelihood of population of EAEU Member States

On behalf of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Kazakh side submitted to the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission for consideration a proposal to establish zero customs duties on the import of potatoes, onions, garlic, cabbage, carrots, peppers, rye, long-grain rice, buckwheat, prepared foods for children, the basis for the production of substitutes for breast milk, juices for children, medicines and raw materials for their production, medical products and medical equipment necessary for the prevention and treatment of COVID-2019.

“Given the seasonal reduction in the supply of vegetables, as well as the high demand for personal protective equipment and medicines, the decision made to reduce the cost of importing these sensitive goods for the population,” said Alikhan Smailov, Member of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission from Kazakhstan.

This initiative was supported by all EAEU Member States. The cancellation of customs duties was adopted for the period until June 30, 2020, and for some types of medical devices and medicines, zero duties will be valid until Sep. 30, 2020, the decision can be extended if necessary.
