Production in mechanical engineering for 5 months of 2020 increased by 18.5% — Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development

At the government session chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin, Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Beibut Atamkulov reported on the results of the development of the industrial sector for 5 months of 2020.

According to the results of 5 months of 2020, industrial production increased by 4.8%. Positive dynamics is maintained in 13 regions.

In the mining sector, non-ferrous ore production increased by 3.3% due to an increase in ore production at Kazakhmys Corporation LLP, Kazchrome TNC, and Aluminum of Kazakhstan JSC.

The increase in iron ore production amounted to 8.9% due to the reorientation of sales markets from traditional to Chinese markets, as well as an increase in production volumes at the enterprises of Sokolov-Sarbai Mining Production Association JSC, Orken LLP, and Bapy Mining LLP.

Due to the increase in the consumption of coal products, the volume of coal production amounted to 102.9%.

In the manufacturing industry, physical volume amounted to 4.9%. The growth was provided by non-ferrous metallurgy, pharmaceuticals, light industry, mechanical engineering, etc.

In non-ferrous metallurgy, production increased by 6.6% due to an increase in the production of refined copper by 17%, gold bullion by 21%, silver in granules by 23%, copper wire by 7%, etc.

In ferrous metallurgy, the physical volume index amounted to 97.6%. There was a decrease in steel production.

In the chemical industry, production decreased by 2.2%. The volume of production at Kazphosphate LLP was reduced due to the shutdown of the furnace for overhaul until May. Good results are shown in the engineering industry.

“The volume of production in the industry over the 5 months in 2020 increased by 18.5%. The output of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers increased by 47.1%, machinery and equipment by 6.7%, production of other vehicles by 125.2%, computers by 3.8%,” the minister informed.

In the pharmaceutical industry, output grew by 21.2%.

In light industry, growth was 10.8% due to an increase in the production of textiles by 10.7%, leather products by 9.9% and clothing by 6.6%.

The volume index for transport in January-May 2020 amounted to 85.9%. The total volume of container traffic through Kazakhstan increased by 30.1% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 312.4 thousand TEU.

“It should be noted that throughout the world, including Kazakhstan, the transport industry has become one of the most affected sectors of the economy from the coronavirus pandemic. Passenger transportation on all types of transport was suspended on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” Atamkulov said.

Since May 1, 2020, domestic passenger flights from Nur-Sultan and Almaty in 20 cities of Kazakhstan.

Today, domestic flights operate on 44 routes with a frequency of 349 flights per week. About 188 thousand air tickets were sold.

Atamkulov also said that a phased resumption of international flights is planned.

“At the end of June 2020, we plan to launch international flights between Kazakhstan and Turkey. In the future, as the epidemiological situation improves, we plan to resume international flights with other countries,” Atamkulov said.

Since June 1, 2020, 54 pairs of passenger trains have been restored running. The sale of tickets has been open since May 15, 2020, as of June 8, 645 thousand travel documents have been sold.

Along with this, construction and installation work is being intensively carried out on all sections of roads, both republican and local.

The volume index for construction in January-May 2020 amounted to 105.9%. The growth is ensured by increasing the volume of construction, in connection with the resumption of construction and installation works across the country. Positive dynamics are observed in 15 regions.

According to the results of 5 months of this year, over 4 million m2 of housing was commissioned for housing construction, which is 88.4% compared to the same period in 2019. To date, a total of 33,479 housing units have been commissioned in the republic. An increase in housing commissioning compared to last year is noted in 9 regions.

“The ministry takes all necessary measures to implement the tasks set for 2020 in the industries, transport and construction. All planned indicators and indicators will be achieved at the end of the year,” Atamkulov said.
