Bakytzhan Sagintayev and WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo discuss expansion of trade cooperation

In Ukimet Uyi Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with the Director General of the World Trade Organization Roberto Azevedo, who arrived in Kazakhstan to participate in the High-Level Forum on Trade and Investment Facilitation.

At the meeting, issues of further expansion of the WTO and active integration of Kazakhstan into the multilateral trading system were discussed. A constructive exchange of views took place on topical issues of the development of electronic commerce, promotion of investments, integration of small and medium-sized enterprises into international trade, as well as some aspects of intellectual property.

Recall, July 27, 2015 in Geneva, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and WTO Director General Roberto Azevedo signed a protocol on Kazakhstan's accession to the World Trade Organization.

In 2017 Kazakhstan successfully completed the chairmanship of the WTO Committee on Trade and Environment. At present, our country is the Chairman of the WTO Special Session on Trade in Services.

September 26-27, 2001, in Astana, on the initiative of the WTO, a round table on WTO accession was held. The round table has been held since 2011. Ministers and heads of delegations from 40 WTO member countries and observer countries (from the CIS, Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East) are invited to the event.

Today the High-level Forum on Trade and Investment Facilitation for Development, held by Kazakhstan in partnership with the WTO Friends of Investment Facilitation for Development, is being held in Astana. There are 16 countries in the Group including Kazakhstan.
