Bakytzhan Sagintayev discusses with the Prime Minister of Belarus further economic and trade cooperation

Today in Ukimet Uyi Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov who arrived in Kazakhstan on a working visit.

During the meeting, topical issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed, in particular, the implementation of the Plan of joint activities for 2017-2018 on the development of trade and economic relations.

Bakytzhan Sagintayev noted that Belarus-Kazakhstan relations are developing steadily. Andrei Kobyakov, in turn, added that Kazakhstan is among the main partners of Belarus in terms of trade turnover.

The sides also discussed the activities of the Belarus-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and discussed the upcoming 13th meeting of the commission, which will be held in Kazakhstan in September this year.

At the same time, the status of implementing the Agreement on the joint use of the experimental complex based on the "Kazakhstani Tokamak", signed at the meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of Governments in Kazan in May of this year, was discussed.

In addition, the sides paid attention to the issues of cooperation within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union. The issues of expansion of cooperation in the industrial sphere, in the field of transport and communications, as well as in the space industry were considered.

At the end of the meeting, B. Sagintayev and A. Kobyakov discussed the EXPO 2017 exhibition in Astana and the opening prospects for the implementation of joint projects, including within the framework of the Startup hub being created in Astana.

This year, the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Belarus is 25 years. The Belarus-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation has been functioning since 1996. The trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Belarus in January-May 2017 amounted to $207.8 million, an increase of 73% compared to the same period last year.
