Kazakhstan develops new rules for grants for NGOs

Within the framework of the implementation of the fourth direction "Identity and Unity" of the National Plan "100 concrete steps", the Ministry for Religious Affairs and Civil Society of the Republic of Kazakhstan is working to improve the legislation regulating the activities of non-governmental organizations.

Today, at a press conference in the Government, Minister of Religious Affairs and Civil Society of the RK Nurlan Yermekbayev spoke about the work being carried out by the agency on the implementation of the fourth direction of the Nation's Plan "100 concrete steps to implement the five institutional reforms" - "Identity and Unity".

In pursuance of the 87th step, in 2016 a draft law "On Amendments to Legislative Acts Regarding Activities of Non-Profit Organizations" was developed. This bill provides for the norms of mandatory participation of citizens in the formation and evaluation of state social orders.

In addition, to date, MRACS RK is working to improve and simplify the rules for granting NGOs. Also, the list of grant areas and sources of the grant fund's funding is expanding.

The Minister added that in 2011, 11 projects were implemented for a total of 208 million tenge by grants. At the same time, all projects received practical application.

In 2017, the total amount of grants has been increased almost 3 times - up to 588 million tenge. Subjects are expanded to take into account the proposals of NGOs. This year it is planned to implement 55 projects. To date, 41 grants have been awarded, and contracts for 14 more projects have been concluded.
