Kanat Bozumbayev was born on Jan. 8, 1969, in Almaty.
In 1993 he graduated from Economic and Social Planning faculty of the Kazakh State Management Academy.
In 1993-1994 he was an economist in Edem ltd. LLP.
In 1994-1997 he was an assistant to the akim of Almaty city;
In 1997 he was director for Economic Affairs at the Almaz and Company Territorial Production Assembly.
In 1997 he headed the Regional Policy Department of the Ministry of Economy and Trade.
In 1997-1998 he was head of General Finance Department, vice president for Economic Affairs at the KazTransOil National Oil Transportation Company CJSC.
In 1998-2000 he was director of the Department of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2000 he was vice minister of energy, industry and trade.
In 2001 he was first vice president of KEGOC JSC.
In 2001-2007 he was president of KEGOC JSC.
In 2003-2007 he was chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Electricity Association.
In 2007 he was chairman of the Board of Air Astana JSC.
In 2007-2008 he was chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company JSC.
In 2008 he was chairman of the Board of KazMunayGas NC JSC.
In 2007-2008 he was chairman of the Board of Samruk Kazakhstan Holding for Management of State Assets JSC.
In 2008-2009 he was chairman of the Board of KEGOC JSC.
In 2009 -2013 he was akim of Zhambyl region.
In 2013-2016 he was akim of Pavlodar region.
Since March 2016 he was minister of energy (reassigned on Sep. 13, 2016).
On Feb. 25, 2019, by the Decree of the President he was reassigned as the minister of energy.
He was awarded the Qurmet Order, he is an Honored Power Engineer of the CIS.
